SHHK Cultural Academy (SHHKCA)

The idea to start a Cultural Academy by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) began in 2012. At that time, the Arts and Cultural Troupe (ACT), managed by the SHHK since 1986, had been stable in terms of operations. The ACT had a comprehensive curriculum, experienced teachers, and was favoured and praised by parents and students.

In order to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture, while the ACT offers a range of performing arts classes, speech classes, language camps, holiday camps, and conducts children’s group, dance groups, youth groups. Each year, the ACT cultivated many Chinese cultural talents. In order to allow more people to benefit, the SHHK Cultural Academy was established in 2012, and the academy will enhance the learning mode used in the ACT teaching model.

The initiative to setup the Cultural Academy also received support from the Singapore Government. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his 2012 National Day Rally speech, highlighted the Cultural Academy and hope “for the Cultural Academy to redefine the cultural landscape in Singapore, and to bring Chinese culture to the next level.”

SHHK Arts and Cultural Troupe (SHHKACT)

Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan set up the Arts & Cultural Troupe in 1986 to promote Chinese Cultural Arts.

In 1997, the Arts & Cultural Troupe relocated to Toa Payoh to bigger premises, to cater to the ever-increasing number of students. At her current location, the Arts & Cultural Troupe continued actively to set up more courses to promote the learning and use of the Chinese language.

The Arts & Cultural Troupe currently has a student population of over 2000 and is one of the more established and recognized youth learning centre in Singapore.
